A Galerkin method for the weak formulation of current diffusion and force balance in tokamak plasmas

چکیده

This paper presents a new numerical approach to the simulation of plasma equilibrium evolution in tokamaks. It is based on an unusual coupling formulation current diffusion and axi-symmetric equations that does not require use flux-surface averages allows for fast Newton-type iterations schemes. A detailed derivation coupled system non-linear its discretization provided. Numerical examples, implementation free-boundary code FEEQS, highlight feasibility applicability.

In this paper, the exponential B-spline functions are used for the numerical solution of the advection-diffusion equation. Two numerical examples related to pure advection in a finitely long channel and the distribution of an initial Gaussian pulse are employed to illustrate the accuracy and the efficiency of the method.
